A Beginners Yoga Primer
One of the most common yoga positions that many beginners learn is the Tadasana. Also called the standing forward bend, this is an essential posture for beginning and advanced yoga practitioners alike and is a great way to begin learning about yoga poses. Known as the forward fold pose, this is the first posture in yoga where you truly learn to properly align yourself and establish a stable, balanced gait of breathing and movement. It can be challenging to first learn how to Tadasana, as it requires both strong muscles of your abdominals and strong internal organs assist you as well. Once you've mastered the movements, however, Tadasana can be learned to help with back pain, chronic anxiety, and other common ailments that affect the back. There are many different poses in yoga, but Tadasana is by far the most accessible and poses a good, natural starting point for many beginners.
To perform Tadasana, you must first position yourself on your hands and knees with your thighs parallel to the floor and your upper body slightly bent. With your eyes focused on the ceiling, open your palms just wide enough to see a small portion of your upper torso, or simply allow your gaze to rest lightly upon your upper spine. Keep your arms hanging by your sides, and gently move them inward as you straighten your spine and prepare yourself for a subtle tada asana. Remember that this is a very simple movement, and your muscles will begin to relax as you reach deeper into your body, reaching toward the top of your head, and through the small opening at the top of your spine.
With a little practice, you'll quickly find that you're able to perform Tadasana easily and comfortably, and without wasting any time. As you progress through your yoga poses, your ability to straighten your spine will become natural and your breath will come more effortlessly. This is one of the many yoga positions recommended for beginner's class, and it can be very useful for relieving back pain. If you've been looking for an exercise that will help relieve stress, improve flexibility, and help to lengthen your spine, then you should consider practicing Tadasana.
